EDI GLOBAL FORUM – PROGRAM 9
26 OCTOBER
GIORNATA FEDERICIANA
Through a collaboration between Fondazione Morra Greco and the
University of Naples Federico II, the EDI Global Forum – Giornata
Federiciana aims to create and promote new forms of education
through a novel understanding of the Museum’s educational mission.
By developing a collaborative dialogue between Federico II’s educational
and research structure with the Museum’s long-established and
perfected educational practices, the aim is to look not only at the
educational objective, but also at its active social implications.
This initiative is part of a project co-funded by the Anniversary Mission
Structure of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and implemented
by the University of Naples Federico II to promote the University’s cultural

heritage as part of its 800th Anniversary Celebration and encourage wide-
spread participation, especially from the younger generations.

EDI LOCATIONS
FONDAZIONE MORRA GRECO
promotes and develops contemporary
culture, supporting the vision of
both emerging and established
international and local artists. The
Foundation originated from Collezione
Morra Greco, which was started in the
1990’s and includes over a thousand
works by approximately two hundred
contemporary artists thus far. The
Foundation’s headquarters reside
in Palazzo Caracciolo di Avellino, a
sixteenth-century building located in
the heart of Naples’historical centre.
In 2021, Fondazione Morra Greco
launched the EDI Global Forumfor
Education and Integration, a project
dedicated to intercultural research on
arteducation.
MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO
NAZIONALE DI NAPOLI – MANN, one
of the city’s oldest andmost important
museums, is far more than a place
where ancient artifacts arepreserved.
As director Paolo Giulierini declares,
“it is a heap of everyday life, in which
cultural and scientific disciplines,
human aspirations and contradictions
are all connected together.”
The NATURAL AND PHYSICAL
SCIENCE MUSEUM CENTRE OF
THE UNIVERSITY OF NAPLES
FEDERICO II was established in 1992
and incorporates several museums:
the museums of Mineralogy, Zoology,
Anthropology, Palaeontology, the
Museum of Physics and, soon, the
Museum of Chemistry. The collections’
scientific and historical value, along
with the exhibition spaces’ artistic
and cultural relevance, distinguishes
this Centre from other national and

international cultural institutions.
By involving scholars, educational
institutions and residents, the goal
is to make the sciences, especially
the natural and physical sciences,
accessible to the general public so that
everyone can understand its beauty
and the importance of experiencing
scientific culture.
The CHURCH OF S. MARCELLINO
AND FESTO is a monumental church
located in the heart of Naples’ historic
center. While today its interior is
divided between the headquarters of
the Department of Political Science at
Federico II University and the Naples
Museum of Paleontology, this church
boasts a rich history thattraces back to
the early Middle Ages when it was part
of a monastic complex.
The monastery also includes a large
CLOISTER featuring piperno arches,
are markable architectural creation by
Giovanni Vincenzo Della Monica, which
was finalized between 1567 and 1595.
From this cloister, visitors can enjoy a
panoramic view of the sea as well as
the Scala Santa oratory.

SIDE EVENTS
The ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS OF
NAPLES (ABANA) is a university-level
institution in Art and Music and, with its
more than 3,000 students, represents
a hub of excellence in Italy’s wide
range of higher education institutions.
Its extensive and diversified
educational programmes guarantee its
students are well prepared for success
in the professional world. Founded
in 1752, the Academy’s library,
archives and gallery spaces contain
remarkable historical and artistic
heritage. In addition to study and
research dedicated to contemporary
art, the Academy is also involved in the
conservation, promotion, education
and teaching of contemporary
historical heritage.
VIVAIO CALVANESE is a hidden green
garden in the centre of Naples and
was founded in 1834 under the name
“Vivaio Calabrese”, after its founder
Francesco Saverio Calabrese. Facing
the entrance to the Botanical Gardens,
Vivaio Calvanese’s nursery resides in a
historic building designed at the end
of the 18th century, which also acts as
a studio for the artist Antonella Raio.
Together with the garden’scurrent
owner Giuseppe Calvanese, Raio’s
research and work is currently focused
on finding new ways for art and nature
to harmoniously coexist.
Built in the early seventeenth
century, PALAZZO ISCHITELLA is
one of the oldest buildings along the
Riviera di Chiaia and now houses
Tecno’s headquarters. Founded by
Giovanni Lombardi in 1999, Tecno is a
Neapolitan company which specialises
in the development of technological
solutions and also provides corporate

sustainability consulting services in the
economic, environmental and social
fields. Tecno is also an EDI Forum
sponsor.
PIAZZA GARIBALDI is a square in
Naples located at the intersection of
the Pendino, Mercato, San Lorenzo,
and Zona Industriale neighborhoods.
It is one of the most important and
crowded squares in the city as it has
hosted the Napoli Centrale station
since 1866. The square is a major
transportation hub, not only for railways
but also for road, tram, trolleybus,
urban and suburban bus lines. On the
left side of the square, you can find a
statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi sculpted
by Cesare Zocchi.
Located in San Lorenzo, one of the city
centre’s oldest neighbourhoods,
MADRE – DONNAREGINA
CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM
is housed in the beautiful Palazzo
Donnaregina, which was transformed
into a museum by Portuguese
architect Álvaro Siza. In addition to
a site-specific permanent collection,
Madre offers temporary exhibitions
and multidisciplinary cultural events.
They put into practice the idea of
the “performing museum”, a place
open to the ongoing experience of
contemporaryart and culture.
The CHURCH OF S. PAOLO
APOSTOLO is a sacred structure
overseen by Father Maurizio Patriciello
located in the PARCO VERDE area of
the town of Caivano, near Naples.
